What Causes Eosinophilia?
Parasitic Infections

Parasitic infections are infections that result from a parasite being introduced to the body. Parasites are organisms that can only survive by living off of other organisms. While some parasitic infections are minor, others can lead to severe complications. The most common infections that occur within the United States include trichomoniasis, toxoplasmosis, cryptosporidiosis, and giardiasis. Trichomoniasis is an infection that's sexually transmitted but typically doesn't cause any notable symptoms. Toxoplasmosis can lead to the development of flu-like symptoms like muscle aches and swollen lymph nodes, which can last for upwards of a month. Cryptosporidiosis is an infection that can lead to weight loss, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, and stomach cramps. Lastly, giardiasis can cause dehydration, gas, and diarrhea. The treatment used depends on the exact infection the patient has been diagnosed with. It's possible for eosinophilia to occur with many of these infections.
